He is currently a full-time emeritus professor and researcher at ITAM’s Law Department and a Level 3 member of the National System of Researchers (abbreviated as SNI in Spanish). He earned his Bachelor´s and Master's degree in Philosophy from the Ibero-American University (Mexico City, Mexico), his PhD degree in Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (abbreviates as UNAM in Spanish) and he´s a Law graduate from ITAM.
He´s a member of the Colegio de Bioética A.C. and has been awarded with scholarships from the British Council, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation (2005) and the National Council of Science and Technology (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, abbreviated CONACYT in Spanish). He has been a visiting professor in the universities of Oxford, Génova and Carlos III, Madrid.
He directs directs several book collections such as “Biblioteca de Ética, Filosofía del Derecho y Política” with Ernesto Garzón Valdés and “Doctrina Jurídica Contemporánea” with José Ramón Cossío. Both collections are edited and published by Fontamara Editorial (Mexico). Additionally, he is co-founder of the law review Isonomía and he is a member of it´s editorial council.
